Elaine, known as "EY," won the Bronze Medal at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens with former partner, Holly McPeak. The two made history as the first U.S. women to medal in beach volleyball. This is Elaine's 10th year playing professional beach volleyball, winning at least one title in eight of the nine seasons she has played. She currently ranks fourth among U.S. women in international victories.
Last year, Elaine and her current partner, Rachel Wacholder, finished in the top 3 at every AVP event. They were the only team to beat Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh, ending Elaine Youngsthe gold medalists' 50-match win streak. Elaine and Rachel finished the 2005 season with 3 first-place finishes in Cincinnati, Huntington Beach, and Boulder. The 2002 season was Elaine's most accomplished as she and Holly earned five titles domestically and four internationally. She was then named the AVP's MVP, Best Offensive Player, and Best Blocker that year.
Before transitioning to the beach, Elaine lived in Rome and played in an Italian professional indoor league, and then moved to Ankara, Turkey to play for an additional year. She spent three years on the U.S. National Team and competed in the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. While at UCLA, she was a four-time All-American, helping her team win the 1991 National Championship and placing second in 1992. Elaine has recently been inducted in the UCLA Athletics Hall of Fame.
